Addendum to Yesterday’s Post on the NRO

The NRO is required to post the correspondence files for its five oldest FOIA cases, one of which is for the history that I mentioned yesterday. It turns out the file was a 2007 request by Jeffrey Richelson, which means the FOIA process took five years. The names and details are mostly redacted, but most of the messages are a heartening sign of how seriously the NRO takes these sorts of requests for information. As for the rest, I’m glad that “He does not want this document released” gets called out as an insufficient justification for withholding the document. Full credit to the Information Access and Release Team there. (The exchange is on p.43 of this pdf.)
