Margaret Atwood ruminates on the charms of Twitter in a blog post for the New York Review of Books here.  I like the metaphor of the forest, a place where the price of freedom from civilization is infestations of trolls and wild beasts.  Of course, physical forests are the product of human forces as much as places of untrammelled wildness, but a metaphor wouldn’t be worth anything if it was accurate in every detail. (Note to Self: Chain up the inner curmudgeon more securely).
